The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/23/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Newbold’s Pizza and Bottle Shop was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

Health Department records show Newbold’s Pizza and Bottle Shop failed to be “in compliance” for its opening inspection on February 10, 2020 with a total of 5 violations, 3 of which the Department considers food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking a Certified Food Sanitation Manager (CFSM) issued by Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH). Facility granted 6 months to attain. Due by 08-10-20. Failure to comply by given deadline could lead to legal action. EHS emailed reciprocity application and fee schedule.

  • Hand wash reminder sign needs to be posted at bar hand washing sink.

  • At beginning of inspection kitchen hand washing sink hot water handle not operational. Facility was able to repair handle during inspection.

  • No paper towels provided in basement employee bathroom.

  • Chlorine concentration observed at less than 50ppm in bar ware washing machine. Facility must cease use of ware washing machine. Facility may not use unit until serviced, supplying final rinse of 50-100ppm chlorine, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Send service report to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using machine may lead to legal action.

  • Interior of bar soda gun head observed with residue accumulation.

  • Discard date marking lacking on prepared/opened foods stored under refrigeration in facility longer than 24 hours. Discard dates must not exceed 7 days from prep/open date. Facility was emailed date marking regulations during inspection.

  • Basement food walk-in refrigerator recorded with ambient temperature of 47F. Foods in unit with internal temperature of 47F. Facility moved all TCS foods into properly working beer refrigerator. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Send service report to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.

  • Facility food probe thermometer found broken at time of inspection. Obtain working probe thermometer to take internal food temperatures.

  • Left door handle liner missing on food prep refrigerator. Gaps present, not smooth non-porous and easily cleanable.
