12 violations, Popeye’s in Norristown hit for thawing frozen items in stagnant water, scoops in dipping well stored in stagnant water

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/4/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Popeye’s Restaurant in Norristown was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • License to operate food establishment not posted. Facility contacted MCOPH for license

  • Raw chicken stored above buckets of pickles walk-in refrigerator

  • Thawing frozen items in stagnant water in food prep sink. (inspector explained proper thawing procedure)

  • Scoops in dipping well stored in stagnant water

  • Frost build-up walk-in freezer (on order for repair)

  • Cardboard lining on shelf/wall by assembly line (must remove)

  • Dust build-up fan guards walk-in refrigerator

  • Hand wash sink in ware wash area hot water turned off

  • Floors unclean under racks walk-in refrigerator (on order for cleaning)

  • Damaged floor tiles back room(on order for repair)

  • End caps lacking on light shield back room

  • Filters above cook line equipment unclean
