Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe

The Allegheny County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/21/2021 at the Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Raw bacon noted at 50F sitting on counter.
- Ice deflector has mold-like growth on the surface.
- There is ice sitting in the hand washing sink.
- Partially cooked fries noted at 61F and have proper time marking. The Facility does not have approval for using Time as a Public Health Control (TPHC) from Allegheny County.
- Prepared food items in the walk-in cooler (meatballs, chili) were made the previous day and are not date marked with a preparation date or discard date.
- There was an insufficient level of sanitizer in the sanitizing sink of the 3 bowl sink at the beginning of the inspection. Employee adjusted the sanitizer level so the chlorine level was between 50 and 100 ppm.
- Can opener is soiled with old food debris.
- Moist wiping clothes are observed sitting on counters throughout the kitchen.
- The surfaces of the grill (underneath and sides) are soiled with grease accumulation and old food debris.
- One of the hand sinks in the lady’s restroom does not supply hot or cold water.
- There is a pipe leaking next to the water heater and a bucket underneath to catch the water.
- Multiple cans of Raid were found throughout the facility.
- Unlabeled spray bottle with pink liquid was found next to onion slicer.
- Detergent bottles are stored adjacent to bread that is contained in a plastic bag.
- Plastic utensils are not facing a uniform direction.
- Ice scoop next to cash register is being stored under the soda dispensers and has soda on the handle.
- Fries in two metal sheet pans are stored on milk crates in the walk-in cooler.
- There is no covered waste container in the ladies restroom.
- Dumpster and grease dumpster lids are open.
- Health permit expired in 2019.
- COVID-19 Violations:
– There are no signs posted outside the facility requiring customers to wear masks and social distance. A handwritten sign requiring customers to wear masks was posted outside facility during inspection.
– Multiple customers were observed walking up to the counter and exiting the facility without wearing a facial covering.
