13 violations for Marty’s in Cranberry TWP; old dead mouse in pest control device in the basement not removed, hand sink blocked

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 17, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Marty’s Bar & Grill was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • No internal thermometer in walk-in cooler.
  • The kitchen hand wash sink was blocked by buckets and dining room/bar hand wash sink was blocked by water pitchers and not accessible at all times for employee use.
  • Excess amount of cardboard boxes present outside rear exit door creating a potential harborage area. (rodents)
  • Floors under cooking equipment and wall to left of broiler have grease/food debris.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Shredded cheese for salads stored below chicken and raw beef. Cheese moved.
  • Observed several bottles/jugs of food stored directly on the floor in prep area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
  • Food facility has a reminder statement on the menu for foods that are / or could be served raw or under cooked to the consumer; however, does not clearly disclose which foods the reminder statement applies to. REPEAT VIOLATION (10/23/18)
  • Grease residuals on wall in basement behind two chest freezers. Grease dripping from floor above. Drip has been repaired but grease remains. REPEAT VIOLATION (10/23/18)
  • Observed exterior and sides of cooking equipment with encrusted grease and soil accumulation. Interior of line cooler has debris. Fan in prep area above slicer has heavy build up. REPEAT VIOLATION (10/23/18)
  • Light shield in back prep area is hanging down from fixture exposing the bulbs.
  • Several light bulbs in cooking area are not lite creating a dim area.
  • Deli turkey at 50F and cheese at 48F in cold wells on line. Pans were over-filled. Product in wells less than 2 hours so moved to different cooler.
  • Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests from control devices frequently, as evidenced by observed old mouse in pest control device in the basement.
