14 violations, Horsham Pizza bumbles inspection; mold like growth observed on shelving at both retail beverage coolers

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/5/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Horsham Pizza was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Personal use beverage lacking lid and straw at prep table across from three basin sink.
  • ┬áBeverage cup stored in hand sink adjacent to three basin sink.
  • Raw food items (raw shell eggs / salmon) stored above ready to eat food items at walk in cooler.
  • (2 times repeat violation) Facility lacking approved date markings on prepared TCS food items stored at walk in cooler and food prep cooler top. Facility instructed that prepared TCS food items as well as pre-packaged TCS food items should be label with a discard date not to exceed seven days after the preparation of the item or the piercing of the packaging of TCS food items not meant for use within 24hrs of preparing item or opening package.
  • Time log lacking for garlic oil mix stored at front counter. Facility stated container was placed at retail display case along with pizza and garlic knots cooked during morning prep – facility produced time log for garlic oil mix during time of inspection. all other items observed at retail case with approved time logs upon arrival of EHS.
  • Facility thawing raw shrimp in stagnant water at three basin sink.
  • Facility thawing salmon inside of vacuum sealed packaging at walk in cooler.
  • Facility lacking labeling for bulk food storage containers – salt / sugar.
  • Facility storing condiments (BBQ sauce bottles) on floor under front retail display case. COS – facility relocated to 6″ above floor.
  • Multiple food handlers lacking hair restraints during active prep.
  • (3 times repeat violation) Can opener handle held together with tape stored hanging with food prep equipment above three basin sink. Facility instructed to remove or replace. Facility instructed that multiple repeat violations may result in future immediate legal actions.
  • Mold like growth observed on shelving at both retail beverage coolers.
  • Stained ceiling tiles observed above walk in cooler.
  • Floor tiling damaged at back hallway outside of mop closet – no longer easily cleaned.
