15 violations; Metropolitan, American Diner & Bar in North Wales blows 7th inspection since February 2017, No last date used indicated on the live mussel tags from December 2019

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/24/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Metropolitan, American Diner & Bar was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

Metropolitan, American Diner & Bar has passed one inspection since February 2017:

  • February 28, 2017- 24 violations
  • May 9, 2017- ZERO violations- Facility lost power due to power outage in the area. Facility ventilation hood system didn’t come on due to 3 phase electricity not coming into the building. This caused heavy smoke from fryers to build, in which sprinkler head nearest fryers activated. The facilities fire alarm system activated notifying the Fire Marshall.
  • September 18, 2017- 7 violations
  • March 28, 2018- 12 violations
  • October 15, 2018- 16 violations
  • January 25, 2019- 14 violations
  • August 23, 2019- 10 violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • No employee hand wash reminder sign at the hand sink at the entrance to ware washing area.
  • Missing drain lines under the hand sink near the main walk-in refrigerator. Provide hot water temperature of at least 100F and repair to be in working condition; follow-up inspection pending on or after 2/25/2020.
  • No last date used indicated on the live mussel tags from December 2019.
  • No labeling on several secondary chemical spray cleaner bottles in kitchen and bar.
  • Exposed food containers stacked together at batter table adjacent to deep fryer.
  • Trash container stored adjacent to boxed bread products under prep table.
  • Spatula stored in crevice of ice cream freezer and cold prep refrigerator.
  • White cutting boards stored on the floor adjacent to 2-compartment food prep sink.
  • Beer walk-in refrigerator door does not close tight.
  • Torn plastic packaging material at the bottom storage area of left side cold prep refrigerator near the dessert station.
  • Excess dried food debris/residue at the bottom storage of three cold prep refrigerator at cook’s line.
  • Pink residue build-up at the interior plastic shield of ice machine.
  • Pair of gloves and clutter on shelf adjacent to microwave oven at the right-side of kitchen.
  • Exterior dumpster lid left open.
  • Dust accumulation on the ceiling tiles near the ceiling vent in kitchen and on ceiling vent at the entrance of kitchen.
