17 violations at Red House in Glenside; Health Department threatens legal action for repeat violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 17, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Red House Asian Cuisine was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 17 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • No sign or placard of notifying customers of establishment inspection report being available upon request; sign re-issued today. COS (corrected on-site)
  • Employee beverage stored with foods/ on food prep surfaces. Observed on dry storage shelves in rear, shelves by walk-in, on prep table. COS
  • Foods in 2 door food prep refrigerator observed at 45F in top section. Unit turned down and unit observed with ambient temperature of 38F by end of inspection. COS- Repeat
  • Egg rolls and breaded chicken stored at room temperature next to fryers without time log. Facility stated food was removed from walk-in at 1130am. Facility must discard all foods by 5:30. EHS reviewed all requirement of Time as a Public Health Control Measure. All foods held with out temperature control must have log of the time removed from temperature control and the discard time. Failure to comply could lead to all questionable foods being discarded and / or legal action. COS-Repeat
  • Facility has placed consumer advisory in menu but lacks reminder to the applicable food items. EHS explained and demonstrated possible solutions directly on paper menu. Repeat
  • Facility lacking pH sushi rice log. Facility only has log dated 2-19 and additional page with out a date. Repeat
  • One pH meter lacking batteries, other meter not functioning properly. Facility unable to get either meter working. Facility may not serve sushi until new / working meter is obtained, EHS observes functional meter, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Failure to comply could lead to legal action.
  • White powdery substance lacking labels. Bulk containers in rear and by walk-in refrigerator, working containers on rear dry storage shelves. COS
  • Knife stored in crevice between food prep table and food prep refrigerator. COS
  • Ladle and other utensils stored in standing water by Barbecue equipment. COS
  • Single use plastic containers used as scoop and left in product. Lacks handle. COS- Repeat.
  • Plastic shopping bags used as food storage container, in direct contact with food in 1 door freezer by fryers. Repeat
  • Refrigeration door gasket torn on 3 door food prep refrigerator. Repeat
  • Two cutting boards in storage on rear dry storage shelves with grooves and stains. Facility voluntarily discarded. COS
  • Walk-in shelves with accumulation. Repeat
  • Under side of refrigeration door handles with accumulation, observed on Walk-in refrigerator and 3 door food prep refrigerator. Repeat
  • Restroom wall with water damage to left of toilet. Repair surface and seal with a hi gloss or semi gloss finish. Repeat
