18 Health Department violations for Osaka Restaurant in Lansdale, cooking utensils in stagnant water, shelving in walk-in cooler observed with rust like and food like debris

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on February 3, 2020 As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Osaka Restaurant in Lansdale was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 18 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Due to multiple violations facility is not in compliance with chapter 4 to the MCPHC.

  • Current CFSM not posted. Post immediately. If original can not be found than facility will have to apply for a duplicate and supply appropriate fees.

  • Employees in kitchen area lacking knowledge of food safety and regulation. Facility must train employees properly on hand washing, food temperatures, sanitation, and proper hygiene. EHS discussed with manager.

  • EHS observed employee in kitchen eating and working at dishwasher. Employee was stopped and instructed to wash hands prior to going back to work.

  • Hand washing sink observed blocked with items in sink. Facility removed items. ensure that sink is available at all times.

  • EHS observed out dated parasite destruction letter from 2018. Provide updated parasite destruction letter.

  • Interior back splash of ice machine unclean with debris. clean.

  • Food items lacking proper date marking in walk-in cooler. All foods stored for more than 24 hour are to be dated with a 7 day shelf life with the prep day being day 1. (2xr)

  • 3Some foods in cooler and bain-marie observed uncovered. Cover to ensure the prevention of potential contamination.

  • Employees lacking proper hair restraints. Provide immediately.

  • EHS observed in use cooking utensils in stagnant water. Facility removed and washed, rinsed, and sanitize. If equipment is to be stored in water between usage than water must be a minimum of 135 degrees.

  • Single use items being used as scoops in bulk food items. Facility removed and discarded. All scoops must have proper handles and stored out of food item.

  • Shelving in walk-in cooler observed with rust like and food like debris. Clean.

  • Interior of bain-maries unclean. Clean

  • Exteriors of equipment unclean with food like and grease like debris. Clean.

  • Some floor tiles in kitchen in need of repair or replacement.

  • Walk-in freezer floor observed with heavy ice build up under shelving and packing debris. Clean.

  • EHS observed some grease like build up on hood filters. Clean. (2 times repeat violation)
