18 violations at Palermos Pizza in Blue Bell, Toxic WD-40 and Raid on top of the Ice machine

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 17, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Palermo’s Pizza in Blue Bell was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 18 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage/lacking lid stored on food prep surface.
  • Dented cans observed on mobile storage rack
  • Lacking date marking for shellstock tags after product has been consumed/sold.
  • Asterisk next to consumer advisory and corresponding food items on menus. Facility also Asterisk Chicken items. Explained only food items that can be under cooked.
  • Can of WD-40 and Raid on top of the Ice machine
  • Lacking proper ingredient lists on prepared retail food items.
  • 3 times repeat violation-Containers/boxes of food stored on walk in freezer floor. Multi repeat violation may lead to legal action
  • Containers/boxes of food stored directly on floor.-bag of onions near walk in freezer
  • Employee personal items on top of bags of croutons on dry storage rack
  • 2 times repeat violation- Food handler lacking hair restraint
  • Food handler lacking beard restraint
  • 2 times repeat violation-Tongs stored on oven door handle along cooks line.
  • Soup spoons with food contact surface up in container
  • Boxes of single service food contact items stored directly on the basement floor.
  • Single service containers stored with food contact surface exposed at front counter under register
  • Cardboard lining basement shelves
  • First prep unit on cook line cutting board with deep grooves and discoloration
  • Dumpster lids open at time of inspection
