The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/10/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Tiffin Indian Cuisine was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 20 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • (2 times repeat violation)Expired food license posted in facility. Facility is delinquent on license payment as of 6/30/20. Facility is granted 48 hours to mail in payment to Norristown office. Failure to comply may result in closure of facility.

  • Facility lacking a CFSM certificate from MCOPH. Facility is granted 30 days to apply for a new certificate or provide proof of course enrollment to email provided. Application and fee schedule emailed during inspection.

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. Sample document emailed to facility.

  • Employee beverage containers stored on prep tables and on prep refrigerators in kitchen.

  • Employee personal food plate stored on cook’s line prep refrigerator cutting board.

  • Many food storage containers throughout facility observed uncovered in refrigeration units.

  • Chicken found to be stored at room temperature during service at tandoori oven without proper time temperature log. Facility was instructed on log use during inspection.

  • Cook’s line prep refrigerator recorded with ambient temperature of 46F. Foods in unit ranging from 44F-47F. Facility moved all TCS foods into working refrigerator. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Send service report to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal actions.

  • Facility found to be placing very hot foods inside of 2 door tall refrigerator without properly cooling foods down before placing into unit. Facility instructed on proper cooling methods during inspection.

  • Rodent-like droppings observed in dry storage room on floor and on lemonade bottle on storage shelf. Facility must immediately clean and sanitize area and have licensed pest control service. Send pest control report to email provide within 10 business days. Pest control report must state treatment of target pest.

  • Facility observed burning incense in dining room above water dispenser.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Single use containers lacking handles used as scoops inside bulk dry good containers. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in legal action.

  • Clean utensils stored on dish rack on top of wash compartment of 3 compartment sink.

  • (3 times repeat violation)Ice machine at front counter with front stainless steel framing damaged. Gap at lower edge of ice compartment and duct tape applied to top of machine/frame. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may lead to legal action.

  • Door handles on both 2 door tall refrigerators in kitchen found broken with exposed insulation materials.

  • Absorbent cardboard observed lining shelving by entrance of kitchen and by dish machine.

  • Exterior of cook’s line microwave observed with blue shipping film.

  • Blue tape observed on splash guard between 3 compartment sink and prep sink.

  • Facility lacking chlorine test strips.

  • (2 times repeat violation)Ceiling tile in room behind counter not smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable. Desserts are being plated in this room and soiled wares are stored here as well. Replace with approved ceiling tiles. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may lead to legal action.
