21 violations at Jasmine Asian Bistro fouls inspection in Glenside; Live cockroach-like insect observed on floor next to food prep sink, Dead cockroach-like insects observed on glue trap by dish machine, Interior of ice machine observed with black mold-like residue

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/11/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Jasmine Asian Bistro was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 21 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverages stored in food prep refrigerator by fryers.

  • No hand wash sign posted at server station hand wash sink.

  • Hand wash sink next to food prep sink observed obstructed by large trash cans.

  • Many types of raw meats found stored above produce and ready to eat sauces in walk-in refrigerator.

  • Interior of ice machine observed with black mold-like residue.

  • Foods in cooks line prep refrigerator by wok area recorded with internal temperatures of 49F-54F. Facility voluntarily discarded pork, chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp, scallops, and noodles during inspection.

  • Facility found to be storing cooked pork, wontons, and cut cabbage at room temperature during service without proper time temperature log. Facility was instructed on proper log use during inspection.

  • Cook’s line prep refrigerator by wok area recorded with ambient temperature of 54F. Facility voluntarily discarded all TCS foods. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Fax service report to 215-784-5524 or to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.

  • Commercially vacuum sealed fish with label stating to keep frozen while under vacuum seal found thawing in walk-in refrigerator. Fish still frozen to touch. Facility removed from bags during inspection.

  • Live cockroach-like insect observed on floor next to food prep sink. Dead cockroach-like insects observed on glue trap by dish machine. Facility must clean and sanitize all areas and have licensed pest control service. Send pest control report to email provided within 10 business days. Pest control report must state treatment of target pest.

  • Large containers of fried noodles observed in dining room for bagging. Facility was instructed no food prep or packaging can occur in dining area.

  • Employee observed preparing chicken next to dish machine.

  • (3 times repeat violation)Wet wiping cloth observed under portable cutting board. Failure to correct and maintain repeat violations could lead to legal action.

  • Wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer between use.

  • Tongs stored hanging on oven handle by fryers.

  • Cutting board stored behind food prep sink faucet.

  • Single use scoop lacking handle stored in bulk sugar container in kitchen.

  • Cloth linens observed lining several surfaces around cook’s line.

  • Facility found to be re-using opened cans for secondary food storage. Facility must place all foods in food grade container after opening and preparing foods.

  • Hand wash sink by food prep sink observed draining slowly.
