22 violations at A&E Food Market in Norristown; Expired milk, no soap for hand sink,  hand sink blocked, wearing face masks improperly

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/31/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the A&E Food MarketĀ  was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 22 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Inspector observed facility staff wearing face masks improperly. Inspector observed multiple customers in store without face masks.
  • Hand sink next to cooks line obstructed at time of inspection.

  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink next to cooks line.

  • 10 – adequate handwashing facilities supplied & accessible

    Comments: Facility lacking soap at hand sink next to cooks line.

  • Three half-gallon containers of Rosenberg’s milk with sell-by date of 7/30/20. Facility voluntarily discarded.

  • Food items in deli display cooler observed with an internal temperature greater that 41F. Facility voluntarily moved affected food items to a cooler maintaining proper temperature.

  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers in retail cooler. Sliced fruit and locally-sourced desert.

  • Deli display cooler in rear of facility measuring 48F. Facility may not use refrigerator until unit is holding 41F or below.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Facility lacking common name label on post-packaged containers of seeds in retail area. Common name label lacking on locally-sourced desert items in retail cooler.

  • Boxes of Pringles and cereal of stored on floor.

  • Rice stored in open original bag. Plastic bowl used as scoop for rice.

  • Boxes of frozen hamburger patties and chicken cutlets in chest freezer uncovered.

  • Multiple items stored in open aluminum cans in coolers across from cooks line: cheddar cheese sauce; tomato sauce; mushrooms.

  • Hand mixer hanging from hook next to hand sink next to cooks line.

  • Cardboard liner retail cooler and in walk-in cooler.

  • Paper towel liner under flat top grill. Cardboard under feet of flat top grill.

  • Frost build-up in ice cream chest freezer in back area.

  • Restroom door lacking self-closing mechanism.

  • Covered waste receptacle lacking in unisex and/or women’s restroom.

  • Mop not stored hanging or inverted to dry.

  • Lacking light shield or shatterproof bulb in dry storage room.

  • Insufficient lighting in 1-door retail cooler.
