23 violations, Roach in storage room; Taqueria El Jalapeno in Bridgeport fouls Health Department inspection, kitchenware stored in mop sink

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Taqueria El Jalapeno was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 23 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility operating without a MCOPH license. Facility has 5 business days to submit license application and appropriate fee.

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection

  • Multiple hand sinks obstructed at time of inspection.

  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink.

  • Raw food stored over ready to eat food items in multiple refrigerators.

  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.

  • Common name label lacking on secondary containers (flour and squeeze bottles).

  • Roach-like insect observed in storage room. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH.

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor.

  • Plastic bowl used as scoop in dry goods container.

  • Secondary containers in multiple refrigerators lacking covers.

  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint

  • Ice scoop stored inside of ice machine.

  • Mop head stored on floor.

  • Clean kitchenware stored in mop sink.

  • Boxes of single service food contact items stored on floor.

  • 3 compartment sink improperly set up at time of inspection.

  • Excessive ice build-up in ice cream freezer.

  • Mop sink blocked.

  • Door propped open.

  • Splash guard lacking between hand wash sink and 3-bay sink in storage room.

  • Stained ceiling tile above prep table in kitchen and above TV in dining area.

  • Broken floor tile in small room off of kitchen.
