25 violations, Iron Abbey Gastro Pub – The Loft in Horsham blows inspection, ordered to stop using warm refrigerator

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 19, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Iron Abbey Gastro Pub was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 25 violations were found.

An inspection conducted in April 2019 found 33 violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee open cup beverages found stored with clean utensils in dish machine area and on food prep table in kitchen.
  • Employee observed washing hands inside of main kitchen dump sink without using soap.
  • No paper towels provided at main bar hand washing sink.
  • No soap provided at main bar hand washing sink.
  • No hand wash sign posted in one of the two employee restrooms. Sign posted during inspection.
  • Glassware stored in The Loft bar hand washing sink basin.
  • Facility is not writing date of last sale/service on shellfish tags.
  • Wall mounted dicer observed with dried food residue.
  • Interior of soda gun heads at main bar and Na Brasa bar observed with pink/black mold-like accumulation.
  • Soiled knives are being stored on clean knife storage magnet on wall in kitchen.
  • (2 times repeat violation)Mashed potatoes in steam table recorded with internal temperature of 109F. Facility reheated to 165F during inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Several prepared TCS foods in walk-in refrigerator stored past maximum 7 day discard date. Facility voluntarily discarded several containers of sauces and soups during inspection.
  • Na Brasa service bar refrigerator holding dairy products recorded with an ambient temperature of 45F. Foods in unit recorded around 44F. Facility was instructed to move all dairy to a properly working refrigerator. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.
  • 3 door under counter refrigerator in prep area found to be unplugged at time of inspection with an ambient temperature of 53F. Facility moved all foods to a properly working refrigerator. Unit was able to drop down to 37F by end of inspection. Facility was granted permission to use unit again.
  • Sticky fly strip traps observed hanging from ceiling in kitchen and meat prep room.
  • UV bug light trap installed above dessert station foods and prep table. Light was relocated during inspection.
  • At time of inspection facility had set up a salad bar in the Iron Abbey side dining room. Sneeze guards provided were inadequate and also did not cover all foods on salad bar. All foods must be protected by sneeze guard or covering.
  • Food handler lacking hair restraint in kitchen.
  • Ice scoop stored in ice inside of ice machine.
  • Facility observed using scoops without handles stored inside of bulk dry food products in kitchen and inside food in refrigeration units.
  • (2 times repeat violation)Knives found stored behind electrical lines on wall in back prep area. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Two large table-top cutting boards in back prep area observed with deep heavy scratching and staining.
  • Heavy ice accumulation observed on walk-in freezer door on refrigerator side of door.
  • Leaking pipes observed underneath hand sinks in the dish washing area and back prep area in kitchen. Facility repaired pipes during inspection.
  • Covered trash receptacles lacking in employee restrooms.
