The Chester County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 14, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Akio Sushi and Poke Japanese Fusion in Malvern was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found.

The annual inspection conducted on November 8, 2019 found 8 violations, also, resulting in an “Out of Compliance” inspection.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Interior of ice bin is in need of cleaning.
  • The following are in need of cleaning, wall behind dishwasher (and exterior of dishwasher , floor drain under dishwasher.
  • Observed in-use knife stored between table edges or between tables, an area not easily cleanable & sanitized.
  • Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the hand wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing.
  • Cold water was turned off at the supply due to a leak. Repair so water is available at the faucet knob. Three bay sink is leaking steadily from the tap.
  • One light is burned out in each hood.
  • Aluminum foil lining shelves must be removed as it is not durable.
  • The following are in need of cleaning; sides of equipment, white trash can;  clean today and maintain.
  • Exterior door: Side weather stripping is falling off; replace. Duct tape on bottom of exterior needs to be replaced with a proper weather/rodent strip.
