The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Towanda’s Flying Cow Bakery and Café was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 7 violations were found.
The Flying Cow Bakery has now passed only one inspection of four since March 2019 with the single passed inspection being a follow-up:

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- There are holes in the cutting board collecting food residue and is not a easily cleanable surface.
- Temperature of cream filled pie in dessert cooler measured 59F. Cooked chicken was 47.F in the deli cooler.
- Observed a pile of boxes and food containers attracting flies outside the back door of the facility and is in need of frequent proper disposal.
- Slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
- Observed old food residue on and around the cutting board was not clean to sight and touch.
- The potato slicer is covered in old food residue.
- The grease trap is leaking onto the floor and then being tracked by foot traffic throughout the facility making the floor very greasy.
- The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the PA Food Code as evidenced by incorrect responses to food safety questions.
- Observed frozen condensate collecting on food stored in walk in freezer coming from the cooling unit discharge line.
