The Bucks County Department of Health conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 5/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Makefield Highlands Golf Club was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

This most recent inspection marks the seventh straight failure of the golf club to be, “In Compliance.” Makefield Highlands Golf Club has been found, “In compliance” only once since May 4, 2012.

  • May 4, 2012- 7 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 6, 2013- 10 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 4, 2014- 8 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Apr 2, 2015- PASSED with lower level violations deemed, “Lack of good retail practices”
  • May 5, 2015- 8 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 10, 2016- 10 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 19, 2017- 11 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 25, 2017- 4 violations with 1  food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 30, 2018- 6 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • May 7, 2019- 6 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • No hot water is available at the cook-line handwash sink. No water is provided when ‘hot’ faucet is turned on. Handwash sink must be in good repair and provide sufficiently hot water (100°F). Repair or replace affected plumbing fixtures to ensure proper operation.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 05/26/2020
  • 1. The interior baffle in the kitchen ice machine is unclean with a pink, slimy, mold-like accumulation.2. The interior baffle within the ground-level ice machine is unclean with a pink, slimy, mold-like substance.Ice machines must be emptied. Interior surfaces to be detail cleaned and sanitized before use.

    3. Soda gun at left-side (from within bar) is unclean. Clean, sanitize and maintain.  Repeat Violation.

  • A large piece of roast beef was found, near the deli-style slicer, at 53°F. Time/temperature control for safety (TCS) food must be cold held at or below 41ºF. Product was discarded by staff during inspection.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.  (see note below)
  • Fruit flies were observed around the right side soda gun at the bar. Contact facility’s exterminator for additional monitoring and/or treatment.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/09/2020
  • Single-use to-go containers, as well as a box of fresh tomatoes, were found stored under the 2-bay prep sink. No food or food-related products may be stored below a drain line. Relocate products to proper storage location(s). Repeat Violation.
  • Numerous boxes of food products were found being stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer. All food and food-related products must be stored at least six inches above the floor.  Repeat Violation.
  • Upon BCDH inspector arrival, food worker was observed not wearing a hair restraint as required. Employees shall wear hair restraints such as hats, hair coverings or nets, that are effectively designed and worn to keep their hair from contacting exposed food; clean equipment, utensils and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles.  New Violation.   • Facility does not have test strips to measure sanitizing solution concentration. Obtain and use.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 05/26/2020
  • 1. Kitchen area ceiling (nearest HVAC vent) and walls contain an accumulation of dust.2. Floors and base molding under equipment and prep sink are unclean with grime, grease and/or debris.Clean and maintain.  Repeat Violation.
  • Fluorescent lighting located above the ware washing area is unprotected by a light shield. Replace ceiling panel to prevent contamination.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/05/2020
  • Food employee was observed not wearing a mask to cover their nose and mouth. §46.1144 The retail food facility failed to comply with directives of the Department in response to community emergencies as directed in the April 15, 2020, Order of the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health Public Health Safety Measures for Businesses Permitted to Maintain In-person Operations (FDA Food Code 8-304.11(H)). Employee donned masks during inspection.
