9th straight inspection fumble for Rocky’s Deli Style Restaurant in Glenside; 5 times repeat violation- Rodent-like droppings; Dead cockroach-like insect

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/18/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Rocky’s Deli Style Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 6 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to reporting by The Philadelphia Inquirer Rocky’s Deli Style Restaurant has not passed an inspection going back as far as December 2016:

  • Dec 19, 2016- 6 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 31, 2017- 12 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 20, 2017- 14 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Dec 20, 2017- Follow-up inspection 4 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • Aug 24, 2018- 14 violations with 8 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 21, 2018- 4 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • May 21, 2019- 6 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Oct 25, 2019- 6 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Sign stating inspection reports are available upon request found ripped and hard to read. Facility was emailed new sign to print during inspection.
  • Unprotected blue packs of rodent bait found on floor throughout basement areas. All rodent bait must be in approved bait stations.
  • Gaps around side and bottom of rear door allowing for possible pest entry.
  • (5 times repeat violation) Rodent-like droppings observed in basement areas along wall perimeters. Facility must immediately clean and sanitize area. Facility must be treated by professional pest control company. Facility is granted 10 business days to send pest control report to email provided. Pest control report must state treatment of target pest. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations could lead to legal action.
  • Dead cockroach-like insect observed on floor of basement. Facility must immediately clean and sanitize area. Facility must be treated by professional pest control company. Facility is granted 10 business days to send pest control report to email provided. Pest control report must state treatment of target pest.
  • Doors damaged on 4 door Arctic brand refrigerator with gaps and duct tape. Not smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable.
