The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 20, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Saxby’s Coffee in Ardmore was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 3 violations were found.

Saxby’s Coffee has passed only one of six inspections since November 7, 2019. The closure was the result of not having hot water. While the Health Department terms the closure, “voluntary” had the restaurant refused to close the agency has the authority to close the restaurant.  The inspector added:

Facility was found open and operating without hot water. Possible legal action may occur

Facility voluntarily closed and must remain closed until hot water is restored to all sinks and all surfaces are cleaned and sanitized and written permission is granted from MCOPH. A list of all food and beverage items prepared during time period without hot water was given to inspector at time of inspection

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Lacking hot water at hand sink.
  • Facility lacking hot running water at both hand sink and 3 compartment sink.
  • Box of single service cups stored on floor in back storage room
