The City of Arnold in Westmoreland County  conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/7/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Arnold Sunoco was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Gallons of water, a food product were stored in the employee restroom which is restricted.
  • Numerous food items in the grab and go cooler were held at 52.4 °F, rather than 41°F or below as required.*
  • The quaternary ammonia concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay warewash sink was 0 ppm, rather than * ppm as stated on the manufacturers use directions. THe sanitizer bucket read 0 ppm
  • Food safety manager certification not displayed as required.
  • The hand sink was not access able in the food prep area.
  • The Food Facility Operator shall be the Person in Charge or shall designate a Person in Charge and shall ensure that a Person in Charge is present at the food facility during all hours of operation.
  • Sandwiches in the grab and go cooler were at 52 degrees F and offered for consumption.*
  • Hot dogs and sausages were held at 114 °F, in the roller grill area, rather than 135°F or above as required.*

* The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food.
