The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture¬† conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/23/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Boot & Scoot Saloon in West Newton was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed potatoes and onions stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler and dressing and marinara sauce stored on kitchen floor, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Cans of marinara stored under pipes of 3-part sink.
  • Bin of ice for drinks stored uncovered when not in use behind the bar.
  • Cheeses and prepared meat in kitchen coolers are not marked with a use-by dates.
  • The food facility does not have a handwash sink located in the bar area.
  • Full ashtray found on the kitchen handwash sink during the inspection.
  • No sink stopper available for 3RD sink in bar area so pan is filled with sanitizer solution.
  • Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate quaternary sanitizer concentration.
  • Interior of one microwave, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Black filth/pink slime observed on the interior of the ice machine bin. DO NOT USE. Please empty ice machine COMPLETELY!! Wash, Rinse and Sanitize all parts and allow to air dry before refilling. This machine WAS NOT cleaned during the time of this inspection and bagged ice will be utilized until approval is obtained / machine is full. REPEAT VIOLATION (7-23-19)
  • Floors in kitchen especially under cooking equipment have debris/dirt build up.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
