The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/5/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Buford’s Kitchen was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 6 violations were found.

This most recent inspection marks the second year in a row the restaurant was not determined to be, “In Compliance” following an inspection:

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Whipped butter held at the servers station was at 60°F, rather than 41°F or below as required.
  • Eggs are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer.
  • Food contact surface of vegetable dicers (2), was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Black build-up observed on interior of ice machine.
  • Debris build-up observed on interior of refrigerated drawers on cook line.
  • Certificate could not be located and one on file is expired.
  • Working containers in chemical storage area, taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical.
