Cigarette smoke in the kitchen; Pop’s Pizza and Beer in Bristol fumbles Bucks Health Department inspection

The Bucks County Department of Health conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/1/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Pop’s Pizza and Beer was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 2 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Cigarette smoke was observed in the kitchen. The office is attached to the kitchen and smoking was done in the office. Smoking is not permitted in the kitchen area.
    An employee may not eat, drink or use any form of tobacco unless the use occurs in designated areas where the contamination of exposed food; clean equipment, utensils and linens; unwrapped single-service and single-use articles; or other items needing protection cannot result. The sole exception to this prohibition is in paragraph (2).
    (2) Exception for closed beverage containers. A food employee may drink from a closed beverage container if the container is handled to prevent contamination of the following:
    (i) The employee’s hands.
    (ii) The container.
    (iii) Exposed food; clean equipment, utensils and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles.   Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
  • There was no date/time log for prepared pizza for by the slice sales. The owner stated that the pizza was done cooking at 11:30. The owner recorded the date and time and will discard the unsold pizza by 3:30 p.m.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
