New Kensington City conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/23/2020 following a complaint from the public. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the KFC was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Chicken observed prepped in cooler on racks that have a large amount of mold on them. Cooler walls have a large amount of mold present on them.
  • Sanitizer level in sanitizer bucket is 0 ppm instead of 200 ppm as required.
  • Soap was not available at the hand wash sink in the Food prep area and the Front Line. 2 locations. Employee states hand soap did not come in on truck.
  • Chicken in the cooler area stored in direct contact with the floor.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Surfaces with gross amount of old food product on them.
  • Many surfaces not cleaned, food located behind cooking equipment, under shelves, and in corners, and under hot water tanks.
  • Food observed in the presence of unsanitary shelves, cooler walls, and other surfaces that are directly above or in contact with food.
  • Shelves, cooler handle, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Mold present on shelves in cooler.
  • Serve safe is not posted as required.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
