Fitzwater Station outside Phoenixville fouls inspection; Mold like debris on splash guard of ice machine, 6 violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/6/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Fitzwater Station was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 6 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

EHS followed up on flooding that had the facility closed the day before. EHS confirmed there was no longer water in the basement and the facility had clean/sanitized the area. MCOPH confirmed facility can be re-opened upon approval from all regulatory agencies.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility has an employee signed up for a servsafe class this month. Once completed facility must send a photocopy of the certificate, a check for $70, and a reciprocity application to the MCOPH. MCOPH CFSM reciprocity application can be downloaded @ www.health.montcopa.org
  • Mold like debris on splash guard of ice machine. Clean/sanitize according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Grooves and discoloration on cutting boards. Resurface/replace.
  • Dirt like debris on shelving with dry goods in the basement. Clean/sanitize.
  • Mop being stored in mop bucket in between use. Hang to dry.
  • Broken floor tiles on the floor behind the bar. Replace/repair. All surfaces must be smooth, non porous and easily cleanable.
