The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/25/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Five Star Diner Family Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 16 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

Contacted Hatfield Borough Fire Marshal during inspection upon observation of Ansul system tag indicating that system was last serviced 03/2019, and hood cleaning tag indicating that hood was last professionally cleaned 02/2019. EHS also observed dripping grease accumulation at hood system.

  • Mar 6, 2018- follow-up inspection with no violations found
  • Sep 24, 2018- 14 violations
  • Feb 15, 2019- 33 violations
  • Mar 4, 2019- 14 violations- re-inspection
  • Mar 20, 2019- re-inspection with no violations found
  • Sep 5, 2019- 15 violations
  • Sep 9, 2019- passed re-inspection although cited for 3 lower level violations
  • Sep 10, 2019 passed follow-up inspection with no violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • License posted in facility is expired. Facility has paid for current license. Post current license publicly.
  • Facility observed lacking soap at unisex employee toilet room and in public women’s toilet room.
  • Facility lacking means of drying hands at unisex employee toilet room and in men’s public toilet room.
  • Interior of ice machine unclean at time of inspection. Clean and sanitize in accordance with owner’s manual.
  • Employee cell phone stored on cutting board.
  • Cash stored in contact with sides of clean plates in rear prep area.
  • Facility observed storing unpackaged foods in grocery-style bags. Transfer these items to food grade bags or containers.
  • Scoops stored with handles in contact with foods in bulk dry ingredient containers.
  • Grease-like accumulation observed in/under slicer.
  • Leak observed at water supply lines for mop sink. System observed leaking freely when water was turned on to mop sink. A follow-up inspection will be conducted to ensure sink is repaired.
  • Unisex employee toilet room lacking covered trash receptacle.
  • Self-closing mechanism at unisex employee toilet room and women’s public toilet room no longer functional. Repair to render doors self-closing.
  • FRP on wall at left-hand side of three compartment sink no longer securely attached to wall.
  • (3 times repeat violation) Ceiling light above mop sink found inoperable. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.
  • Light bulbs above prep and dry storage areas have shatter-guard tube, but lack end caps for tubes.
  • Dripping grease accumulation observed on hood vents and fixtures above cook’s line. EHS contacted Hatfield Borough Fire Marshal during inspection.
