The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 5/19/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Funck’s Exxon was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food employee observed in food preparation area, wearing bracelet on wrist. **CORRECTED**
  • Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the bain maries, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. **CORRECTED**
  • Food facility does not have available chlorine sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate chlorine sanitizer concentration.
  • Observed boxes of food stored directly on the floor within walk-in cooler and freezer.
  • Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
  • Observed an accumulation of dust on fan guards and ceiling of walk-in cooler.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed hot water handle leaking at the handwashing sink in food preparation area.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready to eat potentially hazardous foods without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food. **CORRECTED**
  • Food (sandwiches, deli salads) that is repackaged in the facility is not labeled properly with the ingredient statement, net weight, distributed by statement.
  • Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible.
  • Observed a dark mold-like residue on the deflector plate within the ice machine. **CORRECTED**
  • Food facility has an employee that has taken food safety training program; however, results have not been received and there are currently no certificates posted.
