Fortune Buffet in Sayre hit with 11 violations; Cutting boards are in poor condition possible hazard of plastic pieces ending up in food

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/25/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Fortune Buffet was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 11 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Bulk food ingredient storage containers, in the food prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food.
  • The table mounted can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Kitchen lighting is dim and inadequate for preforming regular tasks.
  • Eggs stored above fish in the walk in cooler. Food in the walk in cooler and freezer stored open with no covering.
  • Observed bulk food stored directly on the floor in the walk in freezer and cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
  • Exterior doors and sides of deli cabinet laden with heavy grease and old food debris.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Container storing raw mushrooms has a broken corner that is being held together with zip ties. PIC discarded container.
  • Dried food residue observed on the floor in the walk in freezer.
  • The Floor under the grill is collecting heavy grease residue.
  • The Food facility is using opened tin cans to store bulk food items in the deli cooler. Need to move food to storage containers once cans are opened.
  • The Food facility is reusing salad dressing containers to mix and store in house prepared sauces. Need to use other designated food storage containers for sauce storage.
  • Cutting boards are in poor condition with deep scoring and brittle plastic, harboring stains and residues, and possible hazard of plastic pieces ending up in food. PIC threw away affected cutting boards.
