The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/11/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Greenbergs Bakery was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Half a gallon of milk stored in 2-door reach-in refrigerator observed with sell by date 1/21. Employee voluntarily discarded item.

  • Black substance accumulation observed on the exterior surfaces of large white buckets (walk-in refrigerator). Employee indicated that water stored in buckets was used to make rye bread. Buckets voluntarily discarded at time of inspection.

  • Bulk containers of flour and other powder substances stored under prep table with no lids on.

  • Large bag of salt and a box of chocolate powder stored under prep table in open original container.

  • Soiled wet wiping cloths at front counter area not stored in sanitizer between uses.

  • Torn door gaskets observed on 2-door reach-in refrigerator.

  • Wooden material board observed under large bulk sugar containers (behind walk-in refrigerator). Provide a surface that is smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable.

  • (Repeat violation) Fan guard in walk-in refrigerator observed with white substance and dust accumulation.

  • (7 times repeat violation) 2-door reach-in refrigerator, 1-door reach-in refrigerator and walk-in refrigerator door handles observed with encrusted food accumulation. Note: Failure to correct multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Green shelving inside walk-in refrigerator observed with white substance accumulation.

  • Drip leak observed on pipe coming out of walk-in refrigerator condensation unit (near wall). Repair.

  • (3 times repeat violation) Floors throughout facility observed with food debris accumulation. Note: Failure to correct multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions

  • Wet mop stored in mop bucket and not hanging up to air dry. Holder off the wall.

  • Some porous ceiling tiles observed in dish machine area. Note: Facility has ceiling tiles with a non-porous clear shield over them.
