The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture¬† conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/6/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Harry’s was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 11 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready to eat potentially hazardous foods without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food.
  • Several raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the cooler
  • Observed food prep area in kitchen area, where is it subject to splash from dirty dish wash area. Clean dishes stored in area directly above dirty dish wash area with food splashed on them
  • Food stored in the cooler without proper labeling on it not in original containers.
  • Utensils, pans a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • A food employee was observed touching tomato – a ready to eat food – with bare hands.
  • Wiping clothes to sanitize food contact areas not present.
  • Fish food observed thawing at room temperature on the wash tub, which is not an approved thawing method.
  • Utensils stored with visible food and debris on them and not clean to sight and touch
  • The Food Facility Operator shall be the Person in Charge or shall designate a Person in Charge and shall ensure that a Person in Charge is present at the food facility during all hours of operation.
