The Bucks County Department of Health conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/4/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Cold Stone Creamery was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

Cold Stone Creamery last passed an inspection on June 10, 2015 according to reports in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

  • Dec 7, 2015- 2 violations with both being food borne illness risk factors.
  • Jun 22, 2016- 4 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor.
  • Dec 16, 2016- 4 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Jun 2, 2017- 2 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor.
  • Dec 28, 2017- 1 food borne illness risk factor.
  • Jun 26, 2018- 3 violations with all 3 being food borne illness risk factors.
  • Jul 5, 2018- 1 food borne illness risk factor.
  • Dec 13, 2018- 3 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor.
  • Jun 19, 2019- 1 food borne illness risk factors.

The Health Department has cited the restaurant for, “There is no food safety manager certified by this Department(CFSM) on duty as required” a total of ten times going back to December 5, 2012.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • There is no food safety manager certified by this Department (CFSM) on duty as required. A CFSM must be on duty at all times the facility is open and/or food is being prepared. A completed application(SA-71)for CFSM, or proof of enrollment in an approved safety class must be submitted to the Department.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/12/2020
  • Upon arrival there was no 6 feet barrier or plexiglass between the cashier and customer. Owner placed chairs and entrance barrier to create a barrier. Owner stated they are waiting for the plexiglass barrier to arrive. This must be done immediately.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/04/2020
  • Upon arrival the front hand sink was not draining properly. Employee unclogged the drain and it appears to be draining properly now. Ensure the hand sinks are only used for hand washing and do not clog.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
  • Upon arrival in use utensils to scoop ice cream were being stored in the dipper well but the dipper well was shut off. Ensure the dipper well is constantly running water to ensure the utensils are not contaminated. The dipper well was turned on.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
  • No test strips are provided to test the sanitizer level. Provide test strips. New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/05/2020
  • Observed water leaking from a pipe. The pipe is coming down from the ceiling and has two nozzles attached. Contact plumber to fix leak.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/05/2020  
  • The walk in freezer floor is unclean. Clean and maintain.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/04/2020  
  • The light shields in the walk in freezer are missing. Replace to ensure the lights are shielded.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 06/11/2020
