Health Department slaps 19 Bella in Cedars with 26 violations following inspection, threatens legal action for repeat violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 28, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the NAME was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 26 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Current MCOPH Food license not posted in public view.
  • (6 times repeat violation) Facility lacking a current MCOPH CFSM*. Facility has 5 business days to submit a reciprocity application. Failure to comply may lead to legal action.
  • Hand wash sink in main kitchen blocked with a container.
  • Lacking hot water under pressure at hand wash sink in upstairs restroom. Facility has 24 hours to repair. Contact MCOPH when repair is completed. If there is an additional follow up or more needed Facility will have to pay $325.00 each follow up before scheduled follow-up appointment.
  • Improper date marking for shellstock tags after product has been consumed/sold.
  • Raw eggs and chicken stored over ready to eat food items in prep unit at cook line, 4 door reach in at main kitchen and 1st walk in refrigerator.
  • Food slicer at main kitchen unclean.
  • TCS food items being reheated in steam table-top unit only meant for hot holding.
  • Food item stored in outside smoker from day before. Facility voluntarily discarded 2 pcs of pork shoulder.
  • Date marking lacking on prepared food items throughout walk in refrigeration.
  • Facility lacking consumer advisory for raw or under cooked animal derived food items. Ensure asterisk is located next to consumer advisory and corresponding food item on menu.
  • Smoker located outside lacking submitted procedure to MCOPH.
  • Squeeze bottle stored at cook line lacking labels.
  • Food items stored in outside area.
  • Door gaskets repair with tape in main kitchen area.
  • Door gaskets on refrigeration units and track for sliding 4 door refrigerator in main kitchen area unclean.
  • Fan guard in produce walk in refrigerator unclean.
  • Ice build up in freezer refrigeration throughout.
  • Damaged hot water handle on hand wash sink in main kitchen.
  • Shelves in prep units at cook line, sliding 4 door reach in refrigerator, and walk in refrigeration.
  • Leak at hot water faucet on 3 bay sink and wait staff area. Facility has 24 hours to repair. Contact MCOPH when repair is completed. If there is an additional follow up or more needed Facility will have to pay $325.00 each follow up before scheduled follow-up appointment.
  • Outside trash dumpster lids open.
  • Floor under stove in kitchen and front wait staff area in main kitchen area unclean.
  • Dust build up on vent cover when entering main kitchen.
  • Hole in shed door where dry paper goods are stored.
  • Lacking light shield in main kitchen.
