The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Munchys Pizza & Grill was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food operational license not posted in public view.

  • Sign stating inspection reports available upon request obstructed buy another sign.

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. Sample document emailed during inspection.

  • Employee beverages stored on/above food prep surfaces.

  • Employee observed slicing tomatoes with bare hands. Facility instructed on proper glove use during inspection.

  • Coleslaw, sour cream, and salad dressing stored at room temperature on cook’s line during service. Facility voluntary discarded and was instructed that if foods are stored outside of temperature control proper time/temperature logs must be completed.

  • Discard date markings lacking on prepared deli salads in walk-in refrigerator. Facility emailed date marking regulations during inspection.

  • Cook’s line prep refrigerator recorded with ambient temperature of 48F with foods at 46F. Facility moved all foods to walk-in refrigerator. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Fax service report to 215-784-5524 or to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.

  • Sauce bottles stored under hand washing sink pipe in cabinet by fryers.

  • Employee observed washing tomatoes in 3 compartment sink. All food preparation must be done in approved prep sink at pizza counter.

  • Food handlers lacking hair restraints.

  • Scoops lacking handles stored inside of spices on kitchen shelf.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Door gasket torn on 1 door under counter freezer on cooks line. Repair or replace. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Shelving under prep tables on cook’s line and slicer area lined with absorbent cardboard and aluminum foil.

  • Pizza oven handle observed wrapped with absorbent cloths and tape.
