The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/3/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Fill a Bagel was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage containers stored in refrigeration units with foods for customers.

  • Utensil stored in hand wash sink basin by espresso machine.

  • No paper towels provided at hand wash sink by prep refrigerator.

  • Hand wash sign not posted at back prep area hand wash sink.

  • Milk in small domestic refrigerator found with a sell by date of 2/27/20. Facility voluntarily discarded during inspection.

  • 2 dented cans of tomato paste/pumpkin observed on basement storage shelf. Facility removed for return to company.

  • (2 times repeat violation)In use cutting board at food prep refrigerator observed with deep grooves and stained. Resurface or replace. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Interior of ice machine observed with pink mold-like growth on ice guard.

  • Flavored cream cheeses made in facility observed with a discard date longer than 7 days from the prep date. Cream cheeses were mixed today and yesterday and were date marked with proper 7 day discard date respectively. Facility was emailed date marking regulations during inspection.

  • Gap along bottom of back screen door. Install door sweep.

  • Rodent-like droppings observed on floor around perimeter of prep areas and on shelf under bread slicer table. Facility must clean and sanitize all areas and have a licensed pest control service. Send pest control report to fax or email provided within 10 business days. Pest control report must state treatment of target pest. Facility cleaned up droppings during inspection.

  • Some food items stored directly on floor of walk-in refrigerator.

  • Deli case with deli meats at front counter area observed with duct tape on exterior.

  • Metal floor of bread/pastry walk-in refrigerator observed peeling up.

  • Cardboard lining floor by 3 compartment sink.
