Health Dept slaps Conshohocken’s Andys Diner & Pub 27 violations, 13th “Out of Compliance” inspection since October 2016

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/25/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Andy’s Diner & Pub in Conshohocken was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 27 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

This most recent inspection marks the 13th failure to be in compliance since October 2016:

  • October 11, 2016- 14 violations
  • March 15, 2017- 26 violations
  • March 31, 2017- follow-up to March 15 inspection- 5 violations
  • July 28, 2017- 11 violations- inspection after complaint from the public reported to the Health Department
  • February 26, 2018- 16 violations
  • October 11, 2018- 21 violations
  • November 13, 2018- follow-up inspection to October 11 inspection- 2 violations
  • April 16, 2019- 17 violations
  • June 11, 2019- PASSED inspection following complaint from public with no violations cited
  • August 26, 2019- 17 violations
  • September 9, 2019- follow-up inspection to August 26 inspection- 3 violations
  • October 11, 2019- 20 violations- inspection following complaint from the public
  • November 7, 2019- Follow-up inspection to October 11- 4 violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking a current MCOPH CFSM. Facility has 30 days to submit reciprocity application or submit proof of registration in an approved food safety course.
  • Employee drinks and employee meal stored on prep tables in back prep area.
  • Bare hand contact with ready to eat food items at toaster area and cook line.
  • Lacking single use paper towels at omelet action station at buffet.
  • Potatoes cooked on 2/23/20 stored in large container in walk in refrigerator observed with internal temperature greater than 41 degrees F. Facility voluntarily discarded.
  • Food items held in top section of last prep unit and raw shelled eggs outside of refrigeration at cook line observed with internal temperature greater than 41 degrees F. Facility voluntarily discarded TCS foods.
  • 2 times repeat violation- Lacking date marking on prepared food items.
  • 4 times repeat violation- Asterisk lacking next to consumer advisory and corresponding food items on menus.
  • TCS food items stored in ROP in drawer unit and walk in refrigerator lacking date/time. Facility voluntarily discarded products.
  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.
  • Door open to outside in back storage area.
  • Dented cans stored on dry storage shelves in back storage area.
  • Food prepping tray and food tong stored directly on trash can.
  • Food handler lacking hair restraint
  • Ice scoop stored on top of ice machine.
  • Knives stored between prep unit/tables and walls throughout.
  • Interior of juice dispenser unclean.
  • Damaged door handles on drawer units at cook line.
  • Lacking proper sink stoppers at 3 compartment ware wash sink.
  • Hot water unable to turn off at hand wash sink at end of cook line. Facility has 24 hours to repair. Contact MCOPH when repair is completed. If there is an additional follow up or more needed Facility will have to pay $330.00 each follow up before scheduled follow-up appointment.
  • Pipe at hand wash sink at bar area lacking drainage pipe. Facility has 24 hours to repair. Contact MCOPH when repair is completed. If there is an additional follow up or more needed Facility will have to pay $330.00 each follow up before scheduled follow-up appointment.
  • Trash and debris on ground around trash dumpster.
  • Food spillage on the floor in outside dry storage area.
  • 2 times repeat violation- Damaged/missing floor tiles at cook line, dish machine, bakery area, walk in freezer and outside dry storage room.
  • Lacking adequate floor grout allowing water to pool.
  • Unapproved ceiling tiles at ware wash area.
  • 2 times repeat violation- Lacking light shield or shatterproof bulb.
