Health Dept slaps Pho Kitchen in Lower Providence with 22 violations; Rodent-like droppings observed in dry storage room

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/4/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Pho Kitchen was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 22 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Portable cutting board at end of cooks line is stained and has deep grooves

  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.

  • Chemical spray bottle lacking label

  • Rodent-like droppings observed in dry storage room. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH. Clean and sanitize affected areas

  • (2 times repeat violation) Boxes/containers of food stored on floor in walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer

  • Food items being prepared on top of trash can

  • Food items being prepared in 3 compartment ware washing sink

  • Exposed food items stored on floor underneath of plumbing of 3 compartment ware washing sink

  • Food stored in plastic grocery bags.

  • Employee beverage stored inside of customer ice machine

  • Wet wiping cloths not stored in a sanitizing solution

  • Ice scoop stored in ice machine with handle touching ice

  • Food stored in opened and original can in dry storage room

  • Absorbent cloth lining surface underneath cutting board.

  • Plastic shipping wrap peeling from both microwaves and ice machine

  • Cardboard barrier used between ice machine and shelving to the left

  • Newspaper lining shelves left of the ice machine

  • (2 times repeat violation) Ceiling tiles peeling above dish machine

  • Mop not stored hanging or inverted to dry.

  • Dust build-up on ceiling vent above ice machine

  • Lacking light shield or shatterproof bulbs outside of dry storage room
