Imperatore Restaurant fumbles inspection with 22 violations, 4th repeat violation for improper date marking

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/13/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Imperatore Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 22 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Current MCOPH license not posted at time of inspection

  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink in kitchen.

  • Hand washing sign lacking at hand sinks throughout

  • (4 times repeat violation) Improper date marking for shellstock tags after product has been consumed/sold. Failure to comply may lead to further legal action taken in accordance with law by MCOPH

  • Raw food stored over ready to eat food items in Bain Marie at end of cooks line

  • Can opener blade unclean

  • (2 times repeat violation) Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.

  • Asterisk lacking next to consumer advisory and corresponding food items on menus.

  • Facility thawing frozen food items in stagnant water.

  • (3 times repeat violation) Common name label lacking on secondary dry goods containers.

  • Common name label lacking on squeeze bottles at cooks line.

  • Back screen door is damaged and does not entirely close

  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint

  • In-use utensils stored in stagnant water in between uses.

  • Torn door gasket on Bain Marie door at end of cooks line

  • Absorbent cloths lining surfaces throughout kitchen

  • Walk-in cooler condensation piping lacking insulation

  • (2 times repeat violation) Water softener drainage line draining into food prep sink

  • Restroom door lacking self-closing mechanism for women’s restroom

  • Mop not stored hanging or inverted to dry.

  • Floor underneath cooks line equipment is unclean

  • Wall damaged left of dish machine
