The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/22/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Indian Hut Curry & Cakes was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports this is the seventh consecutive inspection in which Indian Hut Curry & Cakes was not found to be in compliance:

  • Dec 7, 2017- 15 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 7, 2018- 24 violations with 6 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Jun 6, 2018- reinspection following May 7 inspection finds 6 violations with 2
  • Nov 7, 2018- 18 violations with 6 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 15, 2019- 8 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 19, 2019- 9 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Hand wash sink lacking soap/paper towels front counter. paper towels lacking at hand wash sink by cooks line equipment
  • Cutting boards with deep grooves/discoloration
  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.(2 times repeat violation)
  • Foods uncovered in cold units
  • Wet wiping cloths not stored in a sanitizing solution
  • Tong stored on oven door handle along cooks line.
  • Absorbent cloth lining surface underneath cutting board.
  • Cabinets unclean far right-hand side of front counter before entering back kitchen
  • Filters above cookline equipment unclean
