The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 5/21/2020. As a result of that inspection the McDonald’s Restaurant in Baden was cited for 4 violations of Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. *

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed a black, slimy buildup in the ice machine, a food contact surface. The ice machine was emptied and sanitized during the inspection.
  • Several food employees working on the prep line were observed wearing bracelets and watches. This is a repeat violation.
  • Food employees observed prep area not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats.

* The restaurant was determined to be, “IN COMPLIANCE.” This is the first time The Pennsylvania Chronicle has seen the violation relating to the ice machine as being classified as a “Lack of Good Retail Practices” violation rather than being classified as a “Food Borne Illness Risk Factor.” The inspector notes the violation involved a food contact surface.
