Inspection Ben & Irv’s in Huntingdon Valley; Some mold like accumulation on interior of ice chute, fouls 9th inspection since Dec 2016

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/7/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Ben & Irv’s Restaurant and Deli was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to records Ben & Irv’s Restaurant and Deli has had nine, “Out of Compliance” inspections since December 2016:

  • Dec 13, 2016- 21 violations with 10 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Mar 2, 2017- Complaint received- 12 violations with 2 
  • Oct 12, 2017- 13 violations with 3 
  • Jan 22, 2018- Complaint- 17 violations with 6 
  • Jun 19, 2018- 23 violations with 8 
  • Oct 12, 2018- Complaint- ZERO violations
  • Dec 19, 2018- 19 violations with 11 
  • May 14, 2019- 15 violations with 6 
  • Nov 7, 2019- 19 violations with 4 

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Some mold like accumulation on interior of ice chute at wait staff Soda fountain. Clean and sanitize.

  • Some Rubber spatulas on clean ware rack with chipped missing edges. Replace damaged utensils.

  • Interior walls of ice cream freezer with ice accumulated. Defrost.

  • Floor tiles missing at wait staff prep refrig area. Repair to make smooth.
