The Borough of Chambersburg conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 5/13/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Long John Silvers was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14  violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed shrimp in the refrigerator that was stored open with no covering.
  • Observed shelves, mats, fan covers, and walls in the walk-in refrigerator with an accumulation of mold, dirt, and food residue.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil on the floor, refrigerator bottom, and microwave areas.
  • Observed areas of the kitchen floor that is cracked and grout is missing, therefore it is rough and not cleanable.
  • Exterior door located in the rear area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.
  • Observed shrimp, a potentially hazardous ready to eat food requiring date marking, in the walk-in, was not date marked.
  • Observed the hose in mop area hanging below the rim of the sink.
  • No sign was posted at the hand washing sink in the men’s bathroom to remind food employees to wash their hands.
  • Cigarette was found on the shelf in the prep area during the inspection. Corrected on the spot.
  • Exposed food preparation observed in the prep area under dirty ventilation ducts, and subject to potential contamination.
  • Observed loose or broken seals on the stand up refrigerator.
  • Original Certified Food Manager Certificate is not posted.
  • Observed ceiling tiles missing or broken and in need of repair.
  • Observed shelves in the walk-in area that are rusty and are in need of cleaning or replacement.
