Inspection Harper’s Grill in Ford City; Ice machine has an accumulation of pink slime and black filth on chute, bin walls, water tubing- food contact surface

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/4/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Harper’s Grill was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • 3 bowl sink sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap. A back flow prevention device is required
  • Ice Machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed an accumulation of pink slime and black filth on chute, bin walls, water tubing. Ice machine is to be emptied, cleaned and sanitized before use.
  • Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in small refrigerators. REPEAT VIOLATION (10/29/2020)
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed an accumulation of grease and debris on the hood above the cook line and fryers.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed hot water faucet leaking at the 3 bowl sink
