The City of Allentown conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/29/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Norte 7th Market was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Attend a food employee certification course.
  • The top shelf in the right deli display case has pooled up water in it from dripping condensate. The deli cheeses in this area of the unit are sitting in contact with the water. Additionally, water is dripping from the AC unit on to cases of beverages in the rear storage room of the facility. Clean both these areas. Wipe down and sanitize the beverage cases. Discard any food items that may have experienced water entry from the condensate.
  • Employee reported wiping down the deli slicer with sanitizer as the only means of cleaning the unit. This piece of equipment is used in direct contact with foods. To adequately clean such an item, it must be broken down and cleaned in the wash rinse sanitize method at the 3 bay sink in the rear of the store.
  • Cream was held on the counter in a small container with ice packs. This product registered a temperature of 51F. Offer creamer that does not require refrigeration for coffee service or keep such product in a refrigerator. Product was dumped.
  • Food facility is not removing dead pests from the premise as evidenced by a decaying mouse in the rear of the store. Remove this item from the store. Regularly monitor the store for these occurrences and remove them.
  • Deli meats and cheeses were not marked with the date they were opened and a discard date of six days from the opening date. Such items must be date marked in the above mentioned manner and discarded after the established use by date.
  • The deli slicer, a food contact surface, exhibited a build up of old food residue and was not clean to sight. Breakdown, clean, and sanitize this unit.
  • Equipment such as cutting utensils, cutting boards, and the deli slicer are not being cleaned in the wash rinse sanitize method. Any items involved with the preparation of food in the deli operation must be cleaned in the above mentioned manner.
  • The floor underneath the shelves in the retail area are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Clean these areas.
  • Wire racks are not provided above the 3 bay sink to allow for air drying of equipment. Install these units.
  • Facility does not have a food employee certification as required. Obtain this certificate
  • Employee reported using the hand wash sink for cleaning the deli slicer. Additionally, traces of milk were observed in the sink indicating the dumping of such product down its drain. Hand wash sinks are only to be used for hand washing.
  • The ceiling in the dry storage room has a leak in it. Additionally, the shelving below the leak has been saturated and is breaking down. Repair these areas, remove all product from dry storage room to an alternative location while repairs are being made.
