The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/19/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Pizza Delight was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Observed the refrigeration unit within the walk-in cooler to be dripping condensation onto an open case of green peppers. Facility management also observed the violation, and voluntarily disposed of the green peppers. Facility management estimated the value of the disposed green peppers to be $20.00.
  • A food employee was observed touching chopped lettuce – a ready to eat food – with bare hands.
  • Open container of croutons in the kitchen area stored open with no covering.
  • Observed uncovered raw sliced steak and raw hamburger patties stored above and next to ready to eat foods in the refrigerated sandwich preparation unit in the kitchen.
  • Several foods in the refrigerated sandwich preparation unit (cooked meatballs, raw sliced steak, raw hamburger patties) and upright freezer (french fries, onion rings) of the kitchen were observed stored open with no covering.
  • Observed dark mold-like residue on the deflector plate of the ice machine in the self-service soda machine located in the facility’s dining area.
  • Old food, dirt and soil accumulation observed on the floors behind the griddle and fryer tables.
  • Observed an employee personal item (cell phone) stored on a food preparation table in the kitchen.
  • Observed cutting boards at the refrigerated sandwich preparation unit in the kitchen and the food preparation table nearest the ware washing area to be soiled and not cleaned between uses.
  • Wooden floor beams located inside basement area observed to be saturated. Standing water observed on basement floor. Wall and ceiling in the utility closet have holes and are in need of repair.
  • Observed clear plastic condiment bottles in the kitchen area not labeled to identify the contents.
  • Observed refrigerated sandwich preparation unit and food preparation table to be directly next to the handwash sink in the kitchen area without a barrier to prevent splash from the handwash sink from contaminating food and food-contact surfaces.
  • The food facility had quaternary sanitizer and concentration testing strips available at the time of inspection, but was observed not utilizing sanitizer while washing wares. The food facility employee who was ware washing at the time of inspection was questioned regarding the use of sanitizer, but had no knowledge regarding the need to sanitize after washing and rinsing.
