The State College Borough conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/9/2020 after authorities received a complaint. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations The Koop: Korean Chicken and Cuisine was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Chicken drumsticks, chicken thighs, and chicken wings dated 29, 5/27, 5/26,a potentially hazardous time temperature controlled food for safety requiring date marking, in the walk in cooler, was not date marked, or was beyond the date-marking and requires discarding.
  • Underneath equipment sauce table, fryers and stove area of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.
  • Kim Chi, cut jalapeños and cut ginger was held at 55 °F, in the *flip top service cooler, rather than 41°F or below as required. *
  • Flip Top working cold holding unit is not maintaining foods at 41 degrees or below and is in need of repair.*
  • Brown Sauce date expired observed in the walk in cooler area, moldy and is adulterated.

*The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food. These violations are considered, "Food Borne Illness Risk Factor" violations.
