Inspection Tosco’s Pizza in Eagleville; Fly-like insects observed in facility, fumbles 8th inspection since Sept 2016 with 10 violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/29/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Toscos Pizza & Italian Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to reporting by The Philadelphia Inquirer this is the eighth time an inspection result has been, “Out of Compliance” with at least one food borne illness risk factor:

  • Sep 6, 2016- 2 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Dec 7, 2016- 12 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Jun 12, 2017- 11 violations- This was a passing inspection with 11 lower level lack of good retail practices violations including “Fly like insects observed in basement storage area and ware wash area.”
  • Dec 18, 2017- 14 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Feb 26, 2018- Complaint inspection- 24 violations including 9 
  • Mar 14, 2018- passes re-inspection with 3 lower level lack of good retail practices violations.
  • May 29, 2018- 18 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 20, 2018- 12 violations with 1 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Jun 5, 2019- 13 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Dec 3, 2019- 8 violations with 2  food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage stored on food prep surface.

  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink end of cooks line equipment

  • Fly-like insects observed in facility. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH

  • Food stored on floor. (delivery)

  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint

  • Cardboard lining on shelf

  • Trash can lacking cover/lid employee restroom basement. (2 times repeat violation)

  • Missing ceiling tiles basement employee restroom

  • Splash guard or proper separation lacking between food prep sink and hand wash sink

  • Filters above cook line equipment unclean
