Karns City Junior Senior High School “not complying with “Boil Water” advisory issued by the DEP” according to state inspector

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 20, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Karns City Junior Senior High School kitchen was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 3 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food facility is not complying with “Boil Water” advisory issued by the DEP, Public Water System, and is using water which does not meet standards for drinking water. Temporary 5 gallon hand wash sink was set up during¬† this inspection, Placed paper towel and soap next to sink. Facility uses bottled water for cooking. Contact me (inspector) when the Boil water alert has been lifted.
  • Food employee in kitchen area, observed wearing gloves and wipe her face with the back of her hand, employee was told to change her glove, COS
  • Working containers in check out area, used for storing (Quaternary Sanitizer), chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies placed in an unlabeled spray bottle, were not marked with the common name of the chemical.
