Kung Fu Tea in Abington fails inspection with 22 violations; Soap and paper towels lacking at rear hand sink, crepe utensil stored in standing water

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/5/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Kung Fu Tea in Abington was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of XX violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food establishment license has expired 12-31-19. Facility currently operating with out a current license. Facility has 48hrs to remit payment. Failure to comply could lead to legal action and / or closure. EHS emailed copy of invoice to owner.

  • Facility lacking sign stating “The most recent health inspection report is available on request”. License, CFSM, AND Sign must be posted conspicuously for the public. EHS supplied one.

  • Facility lacking a Certified Food Sanitation Manager (CFSM) issued by Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH). Current certificate has expired. Facility must submit application and payment OR proof of registration in an approved course with in 30 days. Due 3-5-20. EHS left copy of reciprocity application and fee schedule.

  • Employee beverage not in tightly closed container or cup with lid and straw; and stored on top of chest freezer.

  • Rear hand sink blocked by fryer debris and wares in basin.

  • Soap and paper towels lacking at rear hand sink.

  • Raw animal foods stored over ready to eat product in rear 2 door refrigerator.

  • Facility lacking sanitizer. Facility able to purchase bleach during inspection.

  • White powdery substances not labeled. Label bulk and working containers.

  • Open cans of foods not transferred to secondary food grade container with lid.

  • Food cases stored on floor in kitchen.

  • Food handler lacking hair restraint.

  • Crepe utensil stored in standing water.

  • Clean round cutting board stored on floor / ledge to right of ware washing sink. Clean and sanitize and store in protected manner.

  • Blenders, crepe cooker, and utensils stored directly adjacent to front hand washing sink. Lacking splash guard. Facility must maintain separation or install splash guard that is at least six inches in height and made of a durable rigid material that is smooth, non-porous, and easily cleaned.

  • Cases of single use items stored on floor in side storage room, personal items stored on top of boxes.

  • Table-top fryers on absorbent oil soaked cardboard.

  • Shipping film on top section of ice machine.

  • Absorbent fabric curtain hung at entrance to kitchen, food debris evident. Remove. if desired supply door / separation that is smooth non-porous and easily cleaned.

  • Food prep sink with scrubber in basin. Clean and sanitize sink prior to food prep.

  • Dumpster overfilled with lids open and bags on ground around dumpster.

  • Mop not hung or invert to dry. Stored with mop head on floor in kitchen.
