The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/27/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Limerick Diner was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

According to reporting by The Philadelphia Inquirer this latest inspection marks the twenty-first Out of Compliance inspection since February 2017:

  • Feb 21, 2017-Re-inspection- 17 violations including 7 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Mar 23, 2017- Re-inspection PASSED with one “lack of good retail practices” violation.
  • Jul 7, 2017- Complaint inspection finds 36 violations including 16 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Jul 10, 2017- Follow-up inspection finds ZERO violations.
  • Jul 25, 2017- Re-inspection finds 9 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Aug 30, 2017- Other inspection finds no violations after boil water advisory.
  • Sep 2, 2017- Follow-up to water advisory with no violations cited.
  • Nov 28, 2017 Routine inspection finds 23 violations including 7 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Dec 14, 2017- Re-inspection finds 14 violations including 7 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Dec 15, 2017- Follow-up inspection finds ZERO violations.
  • Jan 11, 2018- Re-inspection finds 3 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Mar 26, 2018- Routine inspection finds 25 violations including 12 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 1, 2018- Routine inspection finds 14 violations including 7 food borne illness risk factor violations.

  • May 14, 2019- Follow-up inspection finds 5 violations including 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 29, 2019- Re-inspection finds 22 violations including 9 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Jun 3, 2019- Follow-up inspection finds 2 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • Jun 27, 2019- Re-inspection finds 11 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Oct 22, 2019- Routine inspection finds 20 violations including 5 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 13, 2019- Re-inspection finds 17 violations including 9 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 21, 2019- Follow-up inspection finds 3 violations including 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 26, 2019- Follow-up inspections finds ZERO violations.
  • Dec 16, 2019- Re-inspection finds 5 violations including 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 22, 2020- Water outage.
  • May 26, 2020- Water issue confirmed resolved.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Due to multiple violations facility is not in compliance with chapter 4 of the food code. (tap here to read further)
  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink in back kitchen and bakery area – Corrected
  • EHS observed 4 dented cans on storage rack. Facility voluntarily removed. Do not use or sell – Corrected
  • Observed mold on quiche in bakery walk-in cooler. Voluntarily discarded – Corrected
  • Mechanical dish machine lacking sanitizer at time of inspection. Facility must wash, rinse and sanitize at 3-compartment sink until repaired. Email repair invoice to lbrinker@montcopa.org
  • Slicer unclean.
  • Coleslaw at 58 F in cold holding across from the grill. Maintain 41 F or below at all times. Voluntarily discarded. Do not use this cold holding area until a work order is provided to lbrinker@montcopa.org and permission granted by MCOPH.
  • House flies and fruit flies throughout dry storage area in basement. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of certified pest control remediating insect problem.
  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor.
  • Knife stored in space between prep unit and counter. Ice scoop stored on top of ice machine – Corrected at time of inspection
  • Deep grooves and discoloration on several cutting boards. Resurface/replace.
  • Food like debris throughout reach in coolers and walk in coolers/freezers. Multiple gaskets unclean with food like debris. Clean/sanitize.
  • Floors unclean in basement and kitchen.
