The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on October 28, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the China Max in Grove City was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed rapid spraying water from behind the wok bottom-side, in the grill-line area, as employees are standing in an approximate 1/4 inch of water, while cooking. The water is pooling throughout the area and slowly draining in the central floor drain as it accumulates. Equipment is not in good repair, creates a dangerous environment, is promoting insect breeding areas with a moist environment, and must be remedied immediately.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. The following areas in need of a detailed cleaning: – Entire floor throughout the food prep, ware washing, and stock areas, to remove the thick accumulation of food debris, residue, and grime. – Grill line area floor, to remove the pooled water from under equipment and along the wall / floor junctures. – Walls throughout the ware washing and food prep areas, to remove the food splash and dry food residue. – The door to the right of the grill line area (service counter entry area), to remove the very thick accumulation of old food residue and grease, especially around the handle area which employees touch. – All food prep and ware washing equipment exteriors, to remove the accumulated grease and food residue. According to the pest control company, the three-compartment sink area is a primary focus for treatment.
  • Food facility inspection indicates evidence of insect activity in grill line, food prep, and ware wash areas. Observed three (3) live and numerous dead (approximately 20) cockroach-like insects throughout the above-mentioned areas. The facility had a third-party pest control company employee on-site during the inspection (Northwoods Pest Control), treating the facility. I spoke with them and confirmed that there has been an ongoing issue / treatment of this location for an approximate month. The invoice left with the facility states they were treated for German cockroaches and fruit flies via controlled chemical spray. Facility to continue ongoing treatment and eradicate the pest infestation issue completely.
